Tires are fundamental for the safety of your Lincoln. Recognizing the signs that you need to visit your local Lincoln dealer for new tires will help you keep your car running smoothly. These are the signs to look out for.

Your Tread Depth is Below 2/32 of an Inch

Tire tread is what allows your car to grip the road. As you drive, the tread wears down. Once it reaches 2/32″, your tires are no longer safe. You can check your remaining tread depth by using a penny. Simply stick the penny into the groove of your tire’s tread with Lincoln upside down. If you can see the top of his head over your tire tread, you need to replace the tire.

Tread Wear Indicator Bars Are Visible

Modern tires have a feature called tread wear indicator bars to make it easier than ever to tell if your tread has worn down. Narrow bands of smooth rubber in the tread grooves, the indicator bars are hard to see when your tires are new. As your tires wear down, the tread wear indicators seem to rise to the surface. When they are flush with your tread, you need to replace your tires.

Constantly Low Tire Pressure

If you frequently need to add air to your tires, you likely have a slow leak. This might be due to a puncture, or damage to the tire or rim. Sometimes leaks can be repaired, but driving on underinflated tires can damage them.

Shaking or Vibration

If you feel new, unusual shaking or vibration while driving, your tires may be in trouble. Shaking could be caused by uneven wear, a problem with your tire’s internal structure, or poor balance and alignment.

Sidewall Damage

Check for visible cracks or cuts in the sidewall of your tires. Damage to the sidewall weakens your tires, making them more likely to fail.

Bumps, Bulges, or Blisters

Lumps or blistered bumps that bulge out from the surface of your tire are a big red flag. These indicate weak spots where the internal structure of your tire is failing. Because these spots are so much weaker than the rest of your tire, it may cause a sudden blowout. You should not drive on blistered tires, but replace them at once.

Irregular Wear on the Tread

If one side of your tire looks more worn down than the other, it’s called uneven wear. This can happen if you haven’t rotated your tires, or if you drove on tires that were underinflated for too long.
